Democratic Party lawmaker Ahn Dogeol (Gwangju Dongnam-eul) announced on the 14th, "Namgwangju Market has been selected as a Culture and Tourism-Type Market in the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' Specialized Market Development Project to revitalize traditional markets."

This achievement, following previous selections as a Culture and Tourism-Type Market in 2019 and 2021, is expected to inject new vitality into the stagnant local economy and cultural tourism industry.

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups' project aims to develop traditional markets into attractive premium markets where both citizens and tourists can enjoy the region's unique characteristics by linking historical, cultural, and tourism resources. With this selection, Namgwangju Market will receive up to 1 billion KRW in funding over the next two years, including 500 million KRW from the national government and 500 million KRW from local government.

Main initiatives of the Culture and Tourism-Type Market include: ▲creating specialized streets ▲establishing shopping convenience facilities ▲setting up photo zones and murals ▲developing products and food offerings ▲hosting a Sea Food Festival ▲developing market tour programs, and more.

Lawmaker Ahn stated, "This project will serve as a foundation for the overall development of traditional markets in the Gwangju area," adding, "I will continue to communicate on site and make policy efforts to revitalize the local economy and improve the quality of life for residents."
