Guri-si, Establishment of Intelligent System for Galmae Water Quality Restoration Center

Guri City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun) announced on the 14th that it has completed the construction of an intelligent system for the Galmae Water Quality Restoration Center and has officially started its operation.

This project aims to build big data through the installation of measurement and control facilities based on the latest Information and Communication Technology (ICT), automatically diagnose the entire sewage treatment process, and maintain optimal operating conditions to reduce blower volume and chemical usage while improving the stability of discharged water quality.

For this project, Guri City was selected for the Ministry of Environment-led Smart Sewage Management System Construction Contest and invested a total of 3.7 billion KRW, including 2.8 billion KRW in national and provincial subsidies.

During the trial operation period, Guri City confirmed a reduction in chemical usage (14% compared to before installation) and blower volume (28% compared to before installation), as well as an improvement in the stability of discharged water quality. Moving forward, the city plans to actively review ways to expand the system's operation by continuously accumulating operational data to enhance the system's accuracy and stability.

Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun of Guri City stated, “Through the smart sewage management system, we will do our best to establish a clean and safe water management system, improve the living environment for residents of Galmae-dong, and realize a low-cost, high-efficiency smart sewage treatment plant.”

Meanwhile, the Galmae Water Quality Restoration Center is an important urban infrastructure facility in Galmae-dong that treats sewage generated in the Galmae district using membrane technology and reuses all treated water for maintaining Galmae Stream, road surface cleaning, landscaping water, and other purposes.
