On the 13th, after concluding a party meeting at the National Assembly, the People Power Party told reporters that they "request the government to exercise the right to request reconsideration in the name of the party" regarding the two amended bills. According to ruling party officials, Acting President Choi is expected to request reconsideration of the amendment to the Local Education Finance Grant Act at the Cabinet meeting on the 14th, and the amendment to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act at the Cabinet meeting on the 21st.
Both amended bills were passed at last month’s plenary session of the National Assembly led by the Democratic Party of Korea. On the 10th, Lee Ju-ho, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, announced at a high-level party-government meeting that the government had decided to exercise the right to request reconsideration (veto power) once the amendment to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act is transmitted to the government.
