The Democratic Party Fails to Reach Conclusion on 'Martial Law Special Prosecutor Act' Proposal... Leadership to Announce Position Tomorrow

On the 13th, the People Power Party held a party caucus to gather opinions from its members regarding the proposed 'Martial Law Special Prosecutor Act' (tentative name), but the opinions were sharply divided, and no conclusion was reached.

After the caucus, Floor Leader Kwon Seong-dong stated in a briefing, "Regarding the 'Special Prosecutor Act for Treason' submitted by the Democratic Party, opinions among our members are split on whether to propose our own bill or not, so the leadership has been delegated the authority to make that decision," adding, "We will announce the leadership's position tomorrow (the 14th) afternoon."

The nearly three-hour-long caucus proceeded with the floor leadership sharing the draft of the special prosecutor bill and members expressing their opinions on it. The draft, prepared by Party Legal Advisor Joo Jin-woo, mainly focuses on deleting charges related to foreign exchange offenses and treason propaganda and agitation from the Democratic Party and other opposition parties' proposed Special Prosecutor Act for Treason, significantly narrowing the scope of investigation.

During the caucus, among members opposing the special prosecutor bill such as Yoon Sang-hyun and Jang Dong-hyuk, there were reportedly remarks suggesting, "Isn't it uncertain whether the martial law itself was wrong?"
