Chairman Woo Won-sik: "It is Best for the President to Walk Out by Himself"

"Protect the Nation's Prestige and Maintain at Least Minimal Dignity"
Toward Choi, Acting Prime Minister: "Must Exercise Command Authority over the Security Office"

Speaker of the National Assembly Woo Won-sik stated regarding the execution of the arrest warrant for President Yoon Seok-yeol that "It is best for the president to walk out on his own."

On the 12th, Woo posted on his Facebook, saying, "Tensions are rising both inside and outside the country ahead of the execution of the arrest warrant for the president."

He asked, "The president said he would not attend the first hearing of the impeachment trial, so where has the president gone who said he would face impeachment or investigation with confidence?" He added, "Even if his duties are suspended, the president is still the president," and earnestly requested, "The president should maintain at least a minimum level of dignity to prevent further damage to the nation's prestige." He also mentioned that complying with law enforcement willingly would still be a presidential-like behavior.

Woo expressed, "I hope you consider the hardships that the Security Office staff will face," and strongly criticized, "If this continues, even the young people working at the Security Office could suffer lifelong stigma and disadvantages, so saying 'I don't care' is too cowardly."

He also pointed out the negative impact of the impeachment crisis on the Korean economy and the issue of external credibility, stating, "The livelihood of the people has reached a point where it can no longer endure, and the president's wrongful actions should not increase domestic and international uncertainty."

Woo emphasized once again, "For the sake of the country, the president himself, and his supporters, it is best for the president to walk out on his own," raising his voice, "The president should no longer put the Security Office forward and should come boldly before the law. That is the minimum duty to the people."

Finally, Woo directed a sharp remark toward Choi Sang-mok, the Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Strategy and Finance. He wrote, "I hope the acting prime minister exercises command authority over the Security Office," and added, "It is the acting prime minister's role now to order cooperation in executing the arrest warrant and to prevent conflicts between state agencies." Woo concluded his post by saying, "Proving that the Republic of Korea is a democratic country operating according to the constitution and laws is the most certain way to eliminate economic uncertainty."
