Pohang City Tourism Souvenir Contest Award Ceremony Held... 7 Works Finally Selected

Seven Works to Be Utilized at Pohang Tourism Promotion Events and Festivals
Grand Prize Awarded to Jang Seongju’s "Flying Whale"

On the 10th, Pohang City held the awards ceremony for the ‘2024 Pohang City Tourism Souvenir Contest’ at the City Hall External Cooperation Office.


This contest was planned to discover unique tourism souvenirs that represent and symbolize Pohang, promoting Pohang as a tourist city nationwide. It was conducted in two categories: General and Premium.


Among a total of 89 entries received during the 9-day submission period from November 18 to 26?56 in the General category and 33 in the Premium category?7 works were selected as final winners through the evaluation of a panel of experts.

The grand prize was awarded to Jang Seong-ju’s ‘Flying Whale (Ocarina)’ submitted in the Premium category. This ocarina, made of ceramics, was highly praised for creatively capturing the image of Pohang’s blue sea and whales.

The Excellence Awards went to Choi Ha-jeong’s ‘Porangi Doll’ in the General category and Lee Jae-ho’s ‘Gift of Pohang’s Symbol (Teaspoon, Fork, Ear Pick)’ in the Premium category.


The Encouragement Awards were given to Ham Seong-hee’s ‘Drip Bag to Pohang (Coffee Drip Bag Set)’ and Kim Eun-joo’s ‘Little Haenyeo Protecting the Sea (Picture Book)’ in the General category, and to Kim Eun-joo’s ‘Haenyeo So-eun SET (Eco Bag, Pouch, Keyring)’ and Ha Tae-hoon’s ‘Bokyungsa Gae-wan (Teacup)’ in the Premium category.


The winners of this contest received certificates and prize money, and the selected works will be actively utilized for promoting Pohang tourism at tourism fairs, Pohang’s representative festivals, and domestic and international tourism promotional events.


Vice Mayor Jang Sang-gil stated, “This contest allowed us to discover many excellent tourism souvenirs that embody Pohang’s culture and characteristics. We will continue to actively promote and support the awarded tourism souvenirs so that more people can learn about Pohang’s charm.”
