Shinhan Financial Group Holds 2025 Management Forum

Forming Consensus on Leadership Roles and Organizational Direction Through Cicero’s 'De Officiis'
Jin Ok-dong: “Let’s Move Toward First-Class Shinhan by Empathizing with the Purpose (Why)”

Shinhan Financial Group announced on the 12th that it held the ‘2025 Shinhan Management Forum’ over one night and two days starting from the 9th at Shinhan Bank Blue Campus located in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, with about 250 participants including Chairman Jin Ok-dong, CEOs and executives of group companies, and department heads. At this management forum, lectures and discussions were conducted focusing on the group’s New Year management slogan, ‘Customer-Centered First-Class Shinhan Humanitas, Communitas,’ covering topics such as ‘Excellence that leaders must possess’ and ‘Honest Shinhan.’

For the first speaker of this management forum, Shinhan Financial invited Jin-sik Kim, a researcher at Jeongam Hakdang who translated 'De Officiis' written by the ancient Roman philosopher Cicero. In 'De Officiis,' Cicero emphasizes that members of society should be faithful to their duties and pursue ‘excellence,’ striving for the benefit of the community before personal gain.

On the following day, the featured book was 'The Honest Organization' by global management consultant Ron Carucci. Ron Carucci stresses that for sustainable growth, an honest culture must take root within the organization. Participants freely chose and attended external lectures on the three conditions of an honest organization: ‘Purpose,’ ‘Truth,’ and ‘Justice,’ followed by time to prepare and present team proposals aimed at establishing such a culture within the group, along with discussions.

After the lectures and discussions, Shinhan Financial Chairman Jin Ok-dong held a town hall meeting where he freely exchanged opinions with the attendees. Chairman Jin emphasized, “The ‘goal’ indicates what (what) needs to be done, and the ‘purpose’ tells us why (why) it must be done,” adding, “If all members empathize with the ‘purpose,’ we can get closer to becoming a first-class Shinhan.”

He also urged, “A leader’s true influence comes from respect, and to be respected, the process must be just, and one must live a life worthy of others’ attention.”

A Shinhan Financial official stated, “Unlike previous forums that presented concrete measures to achieve financial goals, this management forum was a meaningful time to form consensus through in-depth discussions on the values pursued by Shinhan Financial Group, which aims for excellence rather than just being number one, and the commitments of its leaders.”

Meanwhile, in the New Year’s address on the 2nd, Shinhan Financial presented the group’s management promotion strategies for 2025 as ▲ Establishing effective internal controls ▲ Enhancing differentiated customer value ▲ Strengthening capabilities as a corporate citizen, pledging a leap toward sustainable growth.
