Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) held a meeting on the 27th of last month to discuss measures to revitalize Geondae Mat-ui Street, the district's representative commercial area.
A total of 11 departments, including the Regional Economy Division, which organized the meeting, as well as the Culture and Arts Division, Traffic Guidance Division, and Health and Hygiene Division, gathered in one place to review various proposals from the merchants' association and establish an implementation plan.
The main agenda items included ▲ promoting cooperative projects to strengthen the commercial area's self-sustainability ▲ enhancing cultural content such as busking performances and flea market events ▲ concretizing plans to utilize Cheongchun Tteurak and Hwayang Children's Park ▲ demolition of aging facilities on Mat-ui Street ▲ expansion of parking facilities ▲ maintenance of illegal advertisements and street vendors ▲ and measures to eradicate street smoking and illegal cigarette butt disposal.
These proposals from the merchants' association will be carefully reviewed by each department and gradually implemented through detailed action plans.
In addition, the district plans to promote various projects to establish a foundation for the independence of commercial areas and small business owners, including the ‘2025 Regional Commercial Area Revitalization Specialized Contest’ to discover the unique characteristics of each local commercial area, the ‘Small Business Owner Management Doctor Project’ which provides customized consulting and facility improvement costs necessary for individual small business management, the ‘Small and Medium Enterprise Development Fund and Gwangjin-type Special Loans’ to resolve financial difficulties of SMEs and small businesses, and the issuance of ‘Gwangjin Love Gift Certificates’ to stimulate consumption.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “We will build an organic cooperative system with the merchants' association to collect diverse opinions and reflect necessary matters,” adding, “We will continue to take the lead in revitalizing local commercial areas.”
