Park Byungkyu, Mayor of Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju: "Citizen Sovereignty and Democracy"

Park Byungkyu, the head of Gwangsan District Office, stated on the 9th, "Democracy, where citizens stand as sovereigns, is the foundation of people's livelihoods and innovation."

During a New Year's press conference that day, Park said, "We will lay the foundation for democracy in Korea by realizing local autonomy and decentralization, where citizens become true sovereigns."

He continued, "The district is conducting a bottom-up social dialogue where citizens ask questions and provide answers, designing a sustainable job-specialized zone. To resolve polarization and inequality that hinder sustainable development, we will expand democracy, which has so far remained in the realm of politics, into the economy and create a job system that citizens desire."

He also emphasized, "We aim to weave a sustainable future by making communication, coexistence, and innovation?the core values of the 8th popularly elected administration?the warp, and the participation, solidarity, and democracy of the sovereign people the weft. To support this, we will reorganize the administrative system from five bureaus and one office to seven bureaus and one office, thereby enhancing planning ability, mobility, accountability, and expertise."

Regarding compensation for noise damage caused by the military airport, Park stated, "We need to improve the unreasonable compensation standards," and added, "We will work together with relevant local governments to ensure that the compensation amount, based on the 2010 Supreme Court precedent, reflects the increase in the cost of living."
