The 'Gwangju Youth Job Experience Dream' project aims to help local youth strengthen their job competencies by experiencing various roles in different industries that suit their aptitudes, and to encourage them to settle in the region through community participation.
Eligible 'Dreamter' workplaces are those located in Gwangju City and the Gwangju-Jeonnam Joint Innovation City, with at least five regular employees, and are able to provide high-quality job experiences that reflect the characteristics of each workplace, rather than simple assistant roles. Workplaces with fewer than five but at least one employee may also participate if they submit certification documents as startups, social welfare institutions, or organizations with social (economic) value.
The selected '17th Dreamter' workplaces will provide job experience to youth for up to five months from March to July, with 90% of participating youth's labor costs subsidized by the city. This helps strengthen the capabilities of unemployed youth in the region and provides opportunities for companies to recruit talent who have adapted to the workplace.
Additionally, workplaces that meet certain conditions after the job experience period can receive the newly introduced 'linked recruitment incentive.' Small and medium-sized businesses that hire a 'Dream Youth' (participating youth) for more than one year after the experience ends can receive up to 2.4 million KRW per hired youth.
Workplaces wishing to participate as Dreamter can apply on the Gwangju Youth Job Experience Dream website by 5 p.m. on the 22nd. After on-site inspections and evaluations, the final Dreamter workplaces will be selected and announced at the end of January. More details can be found on the Gwangju City website's notices and the Gwangju Youth Policy Platform.
The 'Gwangju Youth Job Experience Dream' project has been held every year since 2017, in both the first and second half of the year, with over 4,600 workplaces and 7,200 youth having participated so far.
Kwon Yoonsook, head of the Youth Policy Division, said, "We hope that promising local companies that can grow together with local youth and provide valuable job experiences will actively participate," adding, "We will continue to promote youth employment policies so that unemployed youth in the region can be connected to jobs after their job experience."
