On this day, the Council held the '2025 1st Labor-Management-Civil Administration Council' meeting in the main conference room at City Hall, presided over by Mayor Kang Gi-jung, and announced the 'Gwangju Global Motors Statement' containing this message.
The Council is an organization that deliberates and consults on matters such as gathering city-wide capabilities for job creation projects, creating a business-friendly environment, deriving social consensus, unemployment and employment measures, and labor-management-civil administration cooperation, in accordance with ordinances.
At the meeting, the Council urged the GGM labor and management to make sufficient efforts through the Mediation and Arbitration Committee based on the ordinance and the Labor-Management Coexistence Development Agreement.
In the statement, the Council emphasized, "If there are differences of opinion regarding the determination and interpretation of working conditions or the progress of consultations during the process of labor-management discussions, both parties should make sufficient efforts to resolve them rationally through the Council's Mediation and Arbitration Committee."
It continued, "Recently, with labor-management dialogue suspended and conflicts surfacing both internally and externally, various sectors of the local community are concerned about the negative impact this may have on the regional economy," adding, "All members must maintain and further develop a relationship of coexistence and cooperation."
The Council also urged GGM labor and management to act responsibly for the future of the local community.
The Council stated, "The Gwangju-type job model is an economic model that will be responsible for the future of the region and is a representative example of a coexistence-type job that can be expanded nationwide," emphasizing, "Beyond simply the interests of labor and management, it is connected to the economic hopes of all Gwangju citizens, so GGM labor and management must have a sense of responsibility that their roles are directly linked to the future of the local community."
The Council added, "GGM is a valuable achievement created not by individuals but by all citizens of Gwangju together," and "Considering the current economic crisis in the region, now is the time for everyone to join forces with a mature attitude in their respective positions to ensure the sustainability and greater success of the Gwangju-type job model."
Finally, the Council stated, "We will do our utmost to promptly form and operate the Mediation and Arbitration Committee so that GGM labor and management can move forward together on the path of coexistence and cooperation," and asked for the interest and support of Gwangju citizens.
As the Council resolved to form the Mediation and Arbitration Committee at this meeting, it plans to actively support the creation of a neutral and fair forum for dialogue so that all stakeholders can resolve conflicts smoothly and derive cooperative solutions.
