On the night of the 8th, due to a rapid drop in temperature, Gyeonggi Province expanded the cold wave warning to the entire province and activated the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters at Level 1 starting from 1 PM that day.
Gyeonggi Province announced that as the Korea Meteorological Administration issued a cold wave warning for 31 cities and counties from 9 PM that night, the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters began Level 1 operations, with 13 personnel from 13 departments across 6 teams in welfare, water supply and sewage sectors, etc., checking response performance by sector to prepare for the cold wave.
To minimize cold wave damage, Gyeonggi Province requested local governments to strengthen safety checks for vulnerable groups such as the elderly and homeless, inspect the operation status of cold wave shelters through collaboration with local autonomous disaster prevention teams and community leaders, take preemptive measures to prevent crop cold damage and livestock deaths, and actively promote cold wave action guidelines and safety rules such as refraining from outdoor activities and calling parents to check on them.
Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, said, "Due to the sudden temperature drop this week, damage is a concern," and urged, "Please carefully monitor not only the safety of vulnerable groups such as the elderly but also industrial sectors including agriculture and livestock to prevent any damage."
