On the 6th, Gumi City in Gyeongbuk announced that it held the "2025 Gumi Asia Athletics Championships Mascot Sculpture Unveiling Ceremony" in front of the main building of the city hall.

About 40 people attended the event, including Kim Jang-ho, Mayor of Gumi, Park Gyo-sang, Chairman of the Gumi City Council, provincial and city council members, presidents of provincial and city sports associations, and the president of the city athletics federation, to wish for the successful hosting of the event.


The unveiling ceremony was held as a commitment to prepare for the event, which is 141 days away, welcoming the new year of the Eulsa year. The attendees pledged to cooperate with one heart to make the event successful.


The mascot for this event is "Running Tomi," based on Gumi City's tourism character "Romantic Tomi," symbolizing a running figure and conveying a message of harmony among 45 Asian countries and the success of the event.


Mayor Kim Jang-ho of Gumi said, "Starting with this mascot unveiling ceremony, we will do our best to prepare the event without any setbacks," and added, "We will prepare it as a festival where all citizens can enjoy together."


Meanwhile, the 2025 Gumi Asia Athletics Championships will be held in Gumi for five days from May 27 to 31. This event is a prestigious international athletics competition ranked higher than the Asian Games and serves as a precursor to the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo held the same year. About 1,200 athletes from 45 Asian countries are expected to participate, competing fiercely in 45 events.
