Wanju-gun to Hold 'Wanju Gotgam Festival' from 10th to 12th

Wanju County in North Jeolla Province announced on the 6th that it will hold the 'Wanju Gotgam Festival' from the 10th to the 12th at the large parking lot of the county office.

Hosted by Wanju County and organized by the Wanju Gotgam Festival Committee (Chairman Jeong Seongkwon, also president of Unju Agricultural Cooperative) and Nonghyup, the 10th Wanju Gotgam Festival will be held under the theme 'Beautiful Empathy with Wanju Gotgam'.

The festival will kick off at 10 a.m. on the 10th with a local club performance, followed by various programs such as the 'Open the Secret Box' event, a dried persimmon seed throwing contest, a premium gotgam auction event, audience participation games, the Gotgam Golden Song Show, a children's experience zone, and opening and closing celebration performances.

In addition, there will be a local specialty market featuring Wanju local food and a food truck marketplace.

Wanju gotgam is famous nationwide for its chewy and sweet Duresi gotgam, made with the cold and fresh winds of Daedunsan Mountain, and seedless Gojongsi gotgam, which was once presented to kings and is produced in the deep, cold valleys of Dongsang-myeon.

Previously, the county received national certification for the geographical indication system last year for Duresi and Gojongsi gotgam.

County Governor Yoo Heetae said, "We will widely promote the taste and excellence of Wanju gotgam to visitors to the festival," and added, "We will make every effort to ensure that this year's even more abundant gotgam festival becomes an opportunity to enhance the value of local agriculture."
