Mokpo Coast Guard Issues Coastal Safety Accident Risk Advisory 'Caution'

Advance Preparations for Severe Weather Such as Strong Winds from the 6th to the 10th

Mokpo Maritime Police Station (Chief Kwon Oseong) has issued a "Caution" level alert for the Coastal Safety Accident Risk Forecast System in seven local cities and counties (Mokpo-si, Muan-gun, Hampyeong-gun, Yeonggwang-gun, Shinan-gun, Jindo-gun, Haenam-gun) for five days starting from the 6th, to prevent maritime accidents due to strong winds and worsening weather conditions.

The Coastal Safety Accident Risk Forecast System is a system designed to inform the public of potential dangers and prevent accidents in accordance with the "Coastal Accident Safety Management Regulations." It is implemented at dangerous locations and zones in coastal waters, such as piers, during specific periods when adverse weather or natural disasters are expected to cause safety accidents. The system consists of three levels: Attention, Caution, and Warning.

The "Caution" level of the Coastal Accident Risk Forecast System is issued when there is a high risk of safety accidents or concern about the spread of damage. During the caution period, the maritime police will strengthen sea and land patrols, focusing on low-lying coastal danger zones such as coastal waters, ports, and rocky shores. They also plan to make every effort to prevent coastal safety accidents through publicity and safety guidance activities with local governments, precinct station electronic displays, and public announcements.

A Mokpo Maritime Police official stated, "A high seas warning is currently in effect for the southern West Sea. We ask fishery workers to check the mooring status of their vessels in advance, and we urge the public to refrain from visiting dangerous places such as the coast or breakwaters."
