The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will accept applications for the 'East Asia Cultural Cities' program, which aims to promote the unique cultures of the East Asian region and strengthen cooperation among South Korea, China, and Japan, until the 3rd of next month.
According to the agreement made at the Cultural Ministers' Meeting among the three countries, since 2014, a city with a distinctive regional culture from each country has been designated annually as an East Asia Cultural City, and various cultural exchange and cooperation projects have been promoted. At the meeting held in Tokyo, Japan, last September, Anseong-si in Korea, the Macau Special Administrative Region and Huzhou City in China, and Kamakura City in Japan were each declared as the designated cities.
The local governments selected this year will promote their regional cultures by exchanging cultural events with the East Asia Cultural Cities of China and Japan throughout the next year. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism supports exchange projects in various fields such as culture, arts, and tourism.
The main selection criteria include city capabilities, project implementation plans, regional cultural development plans, and funding plans. Local governments wishing to apply should submit an application letter signed by the head of the local government to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The Ministry will announce the selection results in March after screening.
