Buyeo-gun, Chungnam Province announced on the 6th that it will operate the "Happiness Taxi" and school commute taxis for residents in public transportation blind spots and high school students.
The Happiness Taxi can be used up to eight times a month for just 100 won by seniors aged 65 and older, basic livelihood security recipients, severely ill patients with mobility difficulties, pregnant women, and infants.
However, eligibility requires living at least 700 meters on foot from a bus stop to the village hall or village center.
For school commute taxis, high school students from five schools in the area can use the taxi for commuting to and from school at a fare of 1,100 won. An additional 100 won is charged when transferring from a bus.
Those wishing to apply can do so at their local township administrative welfare center or at their school.
County Governor Park Junghyun said, "In rural and fishing villages, the low population makes it impossible to avoid deficits if public transportation is operated according to market principles, which could ultimately leave residents stranded. We will strive to develop and implement an efficient and convenient rural public transportation model as soon as possible."
