Hong Joon-pyo, the mayor of Daegu, is compiling and publishing posts he has previously shared on his social networking service (SNS). Mayor Hong has been discussing various political issues through his Facebook account.
On the 5th, Mayor Hong announced on Facebook, "Facebook is my political diary," and added, "Two books compiling my Facebook posts will be published soon." The first book is titled Why Is Politics Like This, and the second book is titled Dreams Come True.
Mayor Hong said, "These books contain my dreams and thoughts about my country, and they record my political journey," and added, "I would appreciate it if many people read them."
He continued, "Since Facebook came out, doing politics has become much easier. In the past, to issue a statement, I had to go to the National Assembly Press Center (Communication Center) and hold a press conference at a set time," explaining, "Thanks to Facebook, there are no longer restrictions on time and place."
However, he added, "Because all the posts are recorded, there is a burden of having to take full responsibility for the content I write."
Mayor Hong has previously published books compiling his Facebook posts. A total of three books have been released: Dreaming Romanticist, Dreaming Optimister, and Dreaming Republic of Korea.
Mayor Hong is a prominent domestic politician who has actively used Facebook. Through Facebook, he has made suggestions to the ruling party and the president, and has not hesitated to critique various social issues and political matters.
Earlier, in October last year, Mayor Hong made a surprise visit to the headquarters of Meta, the parent company of Facebook, in the United States. At that time, he emphasized, "Facebook is the most useful communication tool in Korea."
He also said, "So far, I understand that Facebook's revenue mainly comes from advertising, accounting for about 90% of its income, but in the future, it seems to be expanding into manufacturing through AR glasses," and requested, "Since Daegu is a region where eyeglass manufacturers are concentrated worldwide, please actively consider Daegu when outsourcing (OEM) in the mass production stage in the future."
