The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education has been selected as an outstanding institution in the Ministry of Education's "2024 Best Practices in Local Education Finance Management."
According to the Ministry of Education and other sources on the 5th, the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education was chosen as an outstanding institution in the category of improving the soundness and efficiency of local education finance, presenting its "Plans and Achievements for Rational Fund Accumulation and Management." As a result of this selection, the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education will receive an award from the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, as well as a special grant of 500 million KRW.
The Ministry of Education annually analyzes the local education finances of 17 metropolitan and provincial offices of education and awards outstanding institutions. Based on 27 indicators last year, the Ministry encourages the autonomous financial soundness of local education finances and the spread of improvement cases.
The Provincial Office of Education received high marks for reducing dependence on external resources and establishing systematic fund accumulation and management measures to overcome the structural limitations of local education finance, which lacks independent taxation authority. In particular, it was recognized for strengthening its ability to stably promote future education and respond to financial volatility, as well as for presenting a sustainable education finance management model.
Kim Jonghun, Director of Budget, stated, "This award is the result of the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education's efforts to improve financial soundness and continuously pursue efficient fund management measures," adding, "We will continue to respond proactively to changes in future society through rational and efficient financial management, and do our best to help the children of Jeonnam grow into future talents."
