550m Pedestrian Deck Construction in Yanggeun-ri Area, Yangpyeong... Completion by the End of This Year

A 550m-long ‘Yangpyeong127 Terrace’ will be created in the Yanggeun-ri area of Yangpyeong-eup, Gyeonggi-do.

Gyeonggi-do announced on the 5th that it will promote various projects according to the urban regeneration implementation plan in the Yanggeun-ri area of Yangpyeong-eup, which was selected for the The Dream Regeneration Contest project, including ▲ the creation of Yangpyeong127 Terrace ▲ operation of the Yangpyeong127 Terrace theme festival and market ▲ creation and operation of Yangpyeong Downtown ▲ operation of the Local Culture Attraction LAB.

Yanggeun-ri, Yangpyeong-eup, is located along the Namhan River, a representative natural resource of the region, and hosts various gathering facilities as an administrative, transportation, and industrial hub.

However, due to long-standing regulations and continuous urban stagnation, the decline of the old downtown area is accelerating because of a lack of convenience facilities along the Namhan River, discontinuous pedestrian paths, and insufficient tourism content.

The ‘Yangpyeong127 Terrace,’ which is set to begin construction this time, will create a pedestrian deck 550m long and 4.5m wide along the Yanggeun Riverside Road by the Namhan River, installing nightscape lighting and artistic benches. In addition, the existing 8.5m road (two lanes) will be narrowed to 6.5m, designating it as a pedestrian-priority road to create a pedestrian-friendly street, which will be flexibly operated as a linear plaza during events or festivals.

Once the ‘Yangpyeong127 Terrace’ is completed by the end of this year, a waterfront space connecting Galsan Park and Yanggang Island will be created, allowing not only local residents but also visitors to enjoy the riverside scenery of the Namhan River, which is expected to help revitalize the local commercial district.

Ahn Seong-hyun, head of the Regeneration Planning Team of Gyeonggi-do, said, "We expect that urban regeneration projects utilizing local resources will accelerate regional revitalization and make the area a landmark," adding, "We will actively strive to discover various projects to ensure urban regeneration that is pleasant and beneficial to residents."
