According to a survey conducted by the Committee targeting school police officers and abuse prevention police officers in northern Gyeonggi, most police station counseling rooms are investigation rooms within offices or shared with other departments, with only about 10% being actual dedicated counseling rooms. Approximately 94% of respondents answered that dedicated counseling rooms are necessary.

The Committee explained that the dedicated counseling rooms were prepared so that residents of northern Gyeonggi visiting police stations can conduct counseling in a comfortable, warm, and stable atmosphere, allowing them to have psychological recovery and hope for a fresh start.

Lee Sang-ro, Chairman of the Gyeonggi Northern Autonomous Police Committee, stated, “For counseling related to crimes and victim statements, building empathy between police officers and counselees is the most important, but it was difficult in the atmosphere of existing counseling rooms. We will spare no effort to support psychological recovery through counseling so that victims can quickly return to a comfortable daily life.”

Meanwhile, the dedicated counseling room for crime victims, ‘Bodeumteo,’ was selected through a public contest to discover region-specific and customized policies for northern Gyeonggi. After a pilot operation, expansion will be considered. Additionally, the Committee has allocated a budget of 200 million KRW, a 100% increase compared to this year’s budget of 100 million KRW, to discover region-customized policies desired by northern Gyeonggi residents in 2025.
