Goyang City Cancels New Year's Sunrise Event at Haengjusanseong... "Mourning the Victims of Muan Airport"

Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 30th that the Haengju Fortress Sunrise Event, scheduled for January 1, 2025, the year of Eulsa (乙巳年), has been canceled.

Goyang Special City decided to cancel the sunrise event to express condolences and mourning for the victims of the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster that occurred at Muan International Airport in Jeollanam-do.

The Haengju Fortress Sunrise Event is a representative event of Goyang City where numerous citizens gather every year to welcome the first day of the new year. Although the event was scheduled for January 1 next year, it was canceled due to the national mourning period being designated until January 4.

Additionally, on January 1, the opening hours of Haengju Fortress will be from 9 a.m., and during the winter opening hours (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.), visitors can tour Haengju Fortress.

A Goyang Special City official said, “We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families affected by this accident and wish everyone a safe and peaceful new year.”
