Korea Post to Issue 21 Commemorative Stamps Next Year Including '80th Anniversary of Liberation'

The Korea Post announced on the 30th that it will issue 21 types of commemorative stamps next year, including those for the '80th Anniversary of Liberation,' 'Korean Submarine,' and 'Korea's High-Speed Rail.'

Commemorative stamps are issued to honor historically significant figures and events, promote national projects, or foster public sentiment.

The commemorative stamps to be issued next year were finalized after review by the Stamp Issuance Deliberation Committee, composed of experts from various fields.

In February, a commemorative stamp for the 'Korean Submarine' will be issued to honor the Dosan Ahn Changho-class submarine developed with Korean indigenous technology. In March, a stamp depicting the nature and culture of Jeju Island's oreum (volcanic cones) will be released. In May, a stamp titled 'Lovely Baby' will be issued to encourage childbirth amid the low birthrate crisis. In June, a stamp for 'Korea's High-Speed Rail,' a representative public transportation system connecting the entire country into a daily living zone, will be issued. In August, on the 14th, just before Liberation Day, the '80th Anniversary of Liberation' commemorative stamp will be released.

Additionally, commemorative stamps such as '30th Anniversary of Elected Local Autonomy,' marking 30 years since the first simultaneous local elections in 1995, and stamps celebrating the World Stamp Exhibition to be held in Seoul next year, including 'Korea's Dancheong' and 'K-Dessert,' are planned for issuance.

Jo Haegun, head of the Korea Post, stated, "Stamps are not merely proof of postage payment but a popular means to express Korea's precious culture," adding, "The Korea Post will continue to actively strive to promote representative Korean culture through commemorative stamps."
