Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) announced that starting in 2025, the eligibility criteria for postpartum care cost support, which aims to reduce the financial burden on families with newborns and help mothers recover smoothly, will be relaxed from a minimum of 6 months of residence in the district to 3 months.
Since January 2023, the district has been proactively providing 500,000 KRW for postpartum care costs to all families with newborns in the district regardless of income level. In 2024, a total of 1,382 families were supported, achieving a high support rate of 89% relative to the number of births, receiving great positive feedback.
Furthermore, to enable more mothers to receive postpartum care cost support, starting next year, the residency requirement will be eased from at least 6 months to at least 3 months in Seongdong-gu.
Therefore, from January 1, 2025, mothers who give birth will be eligible for postpartum care cost support if either parent has been registered as a resident and actually residing in Seongdong-gu for at least 3 months as of the child's birth date.
In addition to cash support, the district provides a voucher worth 1,000,000 KRW that can be used in approved postpartum care-related businesses. Mothers residing in Seoul as of the application date can apply for the voucher without any residency period restrictions.
The voucher can be used for ▲ maternal and newborn health management services (postpartum helpers) ▲ purchase of pharmaceuticals, health supplements, massage, yoga/pilates, body care, postpartum depression counseling, and other postpartum care-related services.
Applications for postpartum care costs must be submitted within 60 days of the child's birth either by visiting the local community service center or online. For online applications, cash support can be applied for through Government24, and vouchers through the ‘Seoul Mom Care’ website. Visiting the community service center allows applicants to apply for both cash and vouchers at once.

Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, “Seongdong-gu, a great place to have and raise children, supports ‘Seongdong-type postpartum care costs’ to reduce the financial burden on families with newborns. Starting next year, we plan to relax residency eligibility requirements so that more families can benefit.” He added, “We will continue to provide careful attention and support to ensure happy childbirth and parenting for families preparing for the birth of new life in our district.”
