Gwangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Bang Se-hwan) held the inaugural ceremony of the organizing committee on the 27th as the first step toward the successful hosting of the '2026~2027 Gyeonggi-do Sports Festival.'

원본보기 아이콘About 240 members of the organizing committee, including Mayor Bang Se-hwan, members of the National Assembly, provincial and city councilors, heads of institutions and social organizations, and sports figures, attended the ceremony.
The ceremony proceeded in the order of a pre-event performance by the Gwangjiwon Nongak Troupe, a report on the progress of the event, awarding of appointment letters, commemorative and congratulatory speeches, reading of the resolution, and a performance praying for the successful hosting.
The organizing committee, as the highest body related to event preparation, is divided into the Operations Preparation Support Subcommittee composed of related organizations, the Social Service Support Subcommittee composed of social organizations, and the Sports Operation Support Subcommittee composed of sports figures. It will establish a cooperative system for the event and play a role in creating an event atmosphere and encouraging citizen participation.
Gwangju City plans to continue checking the preparation status centered on the organizing committee and do its best for a successful event.
Mayor Bang Se-hwan, chairman of the organizing committee, stated, "This Gyeonggi-do Sports Festival is not just a sports festival but a golden opportunity to demonstrate Gwangju City's potential and elevate the region's status," adding, "Through systematic preparation centered on the organizing committee, we will make it a successful event that brings inspiration and joy to athletes, spectators, and citizens alike."
Meanwhile, the Gyeonggi-do Sports Festival is the largest comprehensive sports event with participation from 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province, and Gwangju City will host four events from 2026 to 2027.
