Kick-off Meeting for Research Project on Establishing a Strategy for Distributed Energy Specialized Zones in Economic Free Zones

Goyang Special City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 24th that it held a kickoff meeting on the 20th for a research project to establish a promotion strategy for the Distributed Energy Specialized Zone in the Free Economic Zone, aiming to revitalize the local economy by encouraging local consumption of energy produced in the region and fostering new industries within the specialized zone.

With the enforcement of the "Special Act on the Activation of Distributed Energy" starting June 14 this year, Goyang City is proactively responding by establishing a promotion strategy for the Distributed Energy Specialized Zone in the Goyang JDS district of the Free Economic Zone to enhance corporate competitiveness and achieve energy self-reliance.

The Distributed Energy Specialized Zone allows for special provisions on direct electricity trading, enabling the promotion of local consumption of energy produced in the area and permitting direct electricity transactions. Within the specialized zone, optimal distributed resources can be configured and operated through analysis of energy demand and supply, contributing to the suppression of new transmission line construction and stabilization of the power grid.

This project involves Goyang Special City, Korea East-West Power Co., Ltd., and Goyang Urban Management Corporation, with the contractor being Raon Friends Co., Ltd. Moving forward, the specialized distributed energy zone will be selected through continuous departmental meetings, interim reports, and final reports. The project will also include power supply to nearby areas such as the Daegok Station Knowledge Convergence Complex and Ilsan Techno Valley.

Lee Do-yeon, Director of the Climate Energy Bureau, stated, “Through this project, we will establish a plan to supply affordable carbon-neutral clean energy, enhance corporate competitiveness, and achieve energy self-reliance within the Goyang Free Economic Zone.”
