'Yetseonggil' is a course of about 2.7 km that starts from Jeongneung Parking Lot in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, and walks to the entrance of Hyeongjebong. It takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes. It is the seventh course among the 21 courses of the 'Bukhansan Dullegil' operated by Bukhansan National Park since September 2010. Bukhansan Dullegil is a lowland horizontal walking trail created by connecting and refining existing side paths so that you can walk gently along the foothills of Bukhansan.
The course entrance starts at Exit 2 of Bulgwang Station on Seoul Subway Line 6. After crossing the street, take bus number 7022 or 7211 and get off at the 'Gugitunnel Front' stop, then a 10-minute walk will lead you to the 'Tangchundaeseong Secret Gate Entrance.'
This path is the only section among the Bukhansan Dullegil that passes through a fortress gate. It passes through the Tangchundaeseong secret gate, which connects the Joseon Dynasty capital fortress and Bukhansanseong, continuing down from Daenammun and Bibong Ridge, making it perfect to savor the historic atmosphere of the ancient capital. From the observatory, a famous spot for excellent views, you can see several peaks including Bohyeonbong, Munsubong, Bibong, Hyangrobong, Jokduribong, and Bukaksan at a glance.
The starting point of the course, Tangchundaeseong, was built in 1715 to supplement the defense facilities of Seoul’s capital fortress and Bukhansanseong. Tangchundaeseong is a fortress built for the northwest defense of Seoul and is also called Seoseong (West Fortress). After experiencing the Imjin War and the Byeongja War, Joseon built Bukhansanseong, but since the terrain was high and it was difficult to transport military supplies, soldiers were stationed and supplies stored in the Tangchundae area near Segumjeong, leading to the construction of this fortress. It was built about 5.1 km long from the Seoul fortress at the summit of Inwangsan to Suribong. It was designated as a historic site on April 9, 2024.
The fortress gate of Tangchundaeseong that you pass through is a 'secret gate (Ammun).' Usually, fortress walls have several gates exposed to enemies or the public. However, secret gates are built deep within the fortress walls or in densely forested areas so that ordinary people do not know about them. They are militarily important gates used in emergencies to supply military goods or secretly move troops. The secret gate in Tangchundaeseong is the only one of its kind here.
