Gwangju Nambu Fire Station announced on the 19th that it is urging the public to prevent fires caused by wood boilers during the winter season.
Wood boilers are popular for heating due to their low cost and significant savings on heating bills. However, because the fuel cannot be turned on and off at will, there is a high risk of fire if users are not careful.
Wood boilers should be installed in well-ventilated areas, and only fully dried wood should be used as fuel. It is important to use the appropriate amount of fuel according to the boiler's specifications. In addition, a fire extinguisher should be kept nearby, and safety rules such as regular cleaning of the flue and inspection of the exhaust outlet must be followed.
Kim Jongryul, chief of Nambu Fire Station, said, "Wood boilers are useful for heating in winter, but careless management can lead to major accidents. I hope everyone can have a safe winter without loss of life or property by following proper usage guidelines and conducting regular inspections."
