On the afternoon of the 18th, the district held a Lifelong Education Council at the Yangcheon Digital Media Center to proclaim the vision of a global learning city and share the core values and promotion strategies of the future lifelong learning city, Yangcheon.

The district has promoted a mid- to long-term development plan research to foster a learning culture throughout the entire life cycle and to leap forward as a sustainable "global learning city," establishing the vision of a "future lifelong learning city where all generations grow and leap together."

To realize this vision, four core values were set: sustainable learning city, healthy well-being learning city, fair and inclusive learning city, and dynamic connected learning city. Based on this, the plan is to create a learning city where all residents take ownership and grow together, improving quality of life and fostering happiness, ensuring no one is left behind, and building a learning city connected to the world.

The district is preparing to join the "UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities (GNLC)," which includes over 300 cities from 80 countries worldwide. Through partnerships with UNESCO learning cities, it plans to exchange information on the latest research results and successful cases related to lifelong learning and strengthen future policy capabilities to respond to the demands of global learning cities.

Since being first designated as a lifelong learning city in 2005, Yangcheon-gu has maintained this status for 20 years. In particular, it has made multifaceted efforts to establish a sustainable lifelong education environment.

In March of this year, it built a "Lifelong Learning Integrated Portal," consolidating about 3,000 course information scattered across more than 60 institutions into a single portal. In July, it opened the "Sinwol Lifelong Learning Center," a technology-specialized lifelong learning facility in a relatively underserved area, which won the Excellence Award for Good Policy at the 1st National Lifelong Learning City Festival.

Mayor Lee Gi-jae said, "Based on our district's excellent students, schools, and passion for education, we are creating an environment where anything can be learned within Yangcheon-gu to become a representative educational special zone in Korea," adding, "We will proactively respond to the diverse learning needs of residents and build an accessible lifelong learning environment to create a sustainable city of learning, Yangcheon."
