Yeongam County Recognized as 'Excellent' in Ministry of the Interior and Safety Committee Restructuring Evaluation

Secured 120 Million Won in Special Grant Tax

Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Woo Seunghee) was selected as an outstanding local government in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's '2024 Committee Restructuring Performance Evaluation' on the 17th, securing a special grant of 120 million KRW.

According to the county on the 19th, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety requested metropolitan and basic local governments nationwide to restructure committees that were similar, duplicated, or had poor activity performance from January to November last year, as part of the 110 key national tasks to establish a ‘flexible and efficient government operation system,’ and evaluated the status of these efforts on a monthly basis.

As one of its administrative innovation tasks, Yeongam-gun aimed to ‘enhance the efficiency of committee operations.’ Since June, the county established various committee restructuring plans and conducted a comprehensive survey of committees that had not been convened or had poor activity records over the past three years. Based on this, the county decided to integrate or make non-permanent a total of 18 committees, and revised related ordinances to restructure them.

Furthermore, through systematic preliminary consulting, the county has refrained from establishing ineffective new committees and has reduced unnecessary committees by incorporating similar functions into major committees. In particular, to ensure broad participation of residents in county administration, appointed committee members have been recruited through public announcements on the county website, and duplication among committee members has also been reviewed.

Yang Hoegon, Head of Planning and Audit Division, said, “Over the past six months, we have reviewed the status of committee operations from the ground up to improve efficiency,” adding, “We will continue to implement administration that enhances both resident participation and administrative efficiency.”
