Former Gyeongnam Governor Kim Kyung-soo on the 14th gave significance to the National Assembly's passage of the impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-yeol, stating, "The people and the National Assembly have corrected the wheels of history that were turning backward."
On the same day, Kim, through social media (SNS), said, "It is now time to consider a new framework for the Republic of Korea," adding, "This is not the end but the beginning of a new framework for the future of Korea."
Regarding the voting results, he said, "I applaud the courage of the ruling party lawmakers who voted according to their conscience." In the plenary session that day, the impeachment motion passed with 204 votes in favor, exceeding the required quorum by 4 votes.
He also commented on the series of events, saying, "This makes me proud of K-democracy," and evaluated, "Within hours of the illegal rebellion attempt, our National Assembly nullified the unlawful martial law; within a week, the fact-finding investigation began; and in less than ten days, the president was impeached and held accountable. This demonstrated an unprecedented democratic strength and resilience that no other country in the world has shown."
Kim emphasized, "The role of the National Assembly and the Democratic Party has become crucial," and added, "The people are worried about the economy, livelihood, and security. I ask that, beyond party lines, the ruling and opposition parties take a magnanimous and proactive approach to address economic and livelihood issues as well as diplomatic and security matters so that the people can feel secure and focus on their livelihoods."
