Osan City in Gyeonggi Province will treat wastewater from Osancheon Stream and supply it as industrial water to Samsung Electronics' Giheung and Hwaseong campuses.
On the 11th, Osan City announced on the 12th that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the "Phase 1 Water Reuse Project for Semiconductor Sites in the Gyeonggi Area" with the Ministry of Environment, Samsung Electronics, Gyeonggi Province, Hwaseong City, Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water), and Korea Environment Corporation at Samsung Electronics Hwaseong Campus. This agreement is based on the "Agreement to Promote Reuse of Treated Wastewater" signed by these organizations in 2022 and follows consultations through public-private councils and working-level task forces.

Once completed, a total of 120,000 tons of treated wastewater, including 55,000 tons processed at Osan City's wastewater treatment plant, will be supplied to Samsung Electronics' Giheung and Hwaseong campuses.
In particular, through this project, the city expects to secure local tax revenue by receiving fees from Samsung Electronics for supplying treated wastewater, which will also contribute to local finances.
Lee Gwon-jae, Mayor of Osan City, said, "By supplying industrial water through water reuse facilities, we expect to solve the water shortage problem in the metropolitan area while securing tax revenue. We will continue to focus on addressing water scarcity caused by climate change and improving water quality."
