Gyeongnam Police Refer Former Lawmaker Kim Young-sun and Kang Hye-kyung for 'Failure to Submit Accounting Report Evidence'

The Anti-Corruption and Economic Crime Investigation Unit of the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency referred former lawmaker Kim Young-seon and Kim's accounting officer Kang Hye-kyung to the prosecution on the 12th on charges of violating the Political Funds Act.


According to the investigation unit, Kang is accused of failing to submit approximately 300 receipts and other regular accounting report materials worth about 120 million won to the Gyeongnam Election Commission in relation to the 2023 regular accounting report.


Former lawmaker Kim is accused of neglecting his duty of care in supervising the accounting officer Kang, who he appointed.

Earlier, the Gyeongnam Election Commission filed a complaint with the prosecution on July 24 regarding the incomplete submission of materials in the 2023 regular accounting report of the 21st National Assembly members, and the police took over the investigation.


According to the Political Funds Act, the accounting officer of a lawmaker who has a support group must submit an accounting report to the local election commission every year, attaching a statement of political fund income and expenditure, receipts, and supporting documents from January 1 to December 31.


Violation of this law is punishable by imprisonment of up to three years or a fine of up to 6 million won, and the appointing authority of the accounting officer is subject to a fine of up to 2 million won.
