Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon promised to "wait together with the people" regarding the Supreme Court ruling on June 12 involving Cho Kuk, leader of the Cho Kuk Innovation Party.
On the same day, Governor Kim posted on his social media, saying, "My heart truly aches," and praised, "Despite suffering the pain of ‘myeolmunjihwa’ (utter destruction of a family), Leader Cho Kuk stood at the forefront, more than anyone else, opposing the violent acts of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration."
He continued, "Cho Kuk was right," adding, "The three years under Yoon Seok-yeol were too long."
He then said, "It is an indescribable feeling that at the decisive moment when the arrest and impeachment of the traitor Yoon Seok-yeol are imminent, he becomes a prisoner," and promised, "Though he will leave us for a while, we will wait together with the people."
Furthermore, he emphasized, "We will always stand with him (Cho Kuk)."
Earlier, Leader Cho Kuk was sentenced to two years in prison by the Supreme Court on the same day. The first and second trial rulings, which found him guilty of charges including his children's admission fraud, covering up Blue House inspections, and violating the Anti-Graft Act, were upheld. As a result, Cho Kuk lost his parliamentary seat and is expected to be incarcerated soon.
