BPA Introduces AI-Based Risk Assessment System for Small-Scale Construction Sites

Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Kang Jun-seok) has introduced an AI-based risk assessment system targeting small-scale construction sites that face difficulties in planning and implementing voluntary on-site risk assessments.

The system supports on-site safety managers in conducting thorough risk assessments by identifying potential hazards in advance through an AI-based accident prediction model and suggesting measures to mitigate these risks.


Additionally, by utilizing the internet and mobile apps, it simplifies safety document administration such as pre-work safety inspection logs (TBM) and safety training records, and helps manage site safety efficiently through real-time monitoring functions.


Small-scale construction sites (with project costs under 5 billion KRW) often struggle to establish voluntary safety management systems, including risk assessments, due to limited safety management personnel.


According to the ‘Workplace Risk Assessment Awareness Survey’ conducted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor last year, only 57.7% of sites conducting risk assessments fully complied with all core procedures, indicating an urgent need for additional efforts to establish thorough risk assessments.


Lee Sang-kwon, Head of BPA’s Construction Division, stated, “We expect that the introduction of the AI-based risk assessment system will contribute to preventing major accidents and safety incidents at Busan Port by enabling thorough risk assessments and establishing voluntary safety management systems at small-scale construction sites.”
