Paju City will operate a '24-hour control room' from December 2, 2024, to March 9, 2025, and organize five emergency repair teams by region to respond quickly to burst pipe reports, minimizing inconvenience to citizens.

Paju City plans to thoroughly prepare for burst pipe accidents caused by the cold wave by simultaneously inspecting the operating status of water supply facilities and replacing 7,835 old water meters with burst-prevention meters.

In particular, the city will focus on establishing an emergency water supply support system to cope with water outages caused by burst pipes. The city maintains a 5-ton water truck even during normal times to provide immediate support on-site and plans to establish a water truck mobilization system within the jurisdiction. Additionally, an emergency contact network with bottled water manufacturers and suppliers will be activated to quickly support water outage households with bottled water.

Since citizens' interest and voluntary response are also important to prevent burst pipes, Paju City has been distributing water bills containing burst prevention guidelines since December and plans to post winter water supply facility management notices on the city hall website and promote resident action guidelines until early March next year.

To prevent water meter burst, it is necessary to fill the meter box with insulation materials such as plastic or old clothes and, during long absences or severe cold periods, keep the faucet slightly open to allow water to flow slowly. If the meter is frozen, pouring hot water directly may damage it, so it should be thawed gradually with lukewarm water or a hairdryer.

If a water meter burst occurs during winter, emergency repair services can be received by contacting the Korea Water Resources Corporation Paju Water Branch.
