Police Special Investigation Unit to Request Arrest Warrants for Police Commissioner and Seoul Chief Today

The police are planning to request arrest warrants for Police Chief Jo Ji-ho and Seoul Police Chief Kim Bong-sik in connection with the 'December 3 Emergency Martial Law Incident.'

According to the Special Investigation Unit of the National Police Agency on the 12th, Chiefs Jo and Kim are accused of rebellion under the Criminal Act for ordering the restriction of access to the National Assembly on the day of the martial law.

They are also reported to be accused of receiving instructions related to the emergency martial law from President Yoon Seok-yeol at the presidential residence in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, three hours before the announcement of the martial law.

Chiefs Jo and Kim were urgently arrested the previous day and are currently detained at the Namdaemun Police Station in Seoul. When investigative authorities arrest a suspect, they must request an arrest warrant within 48 hours.
