Daewoo E&C announced on the 11th that it will significantly improve welfare systems related to childbirth and childcare to participate in solving the national issue of low birth rates and to expand and establish a family-friendly corporate culture.

Daewoo E&C has been implementing early policies since the 4th, including the expansion of infertility treatment leave, expansion of spouse childbirth leave, and extension of the application period for reduced working hours during pregnancy, which will be applied from February 23 next year. Among these, infertility treatment leave has been increased from 3 days per year (1 day paid) to 6 days per year (3 days paid), providing one more paid leave day than the revised legal standard (2 days).

In addition to legal regulations, the childbirth congratulatory allowance, which was previously paid from the third child onward, will now be paid as 1 million KRW for the first child, 2 million KRW for the second child, and 5 million KRW for the third child or more (including 500,000 KRW from the employee association). Childbirth supplies support will also be increased by providing points worth 500,000 KRW through the welfare mall in addition to the existing childcare supplies worth 150,000 KRW.

Daewoo E&C has expanded the scope of medical expense support for female employees’ childbirth costs from partial coverage under group insurance to full coverage of treatment and surgery fees related to childbirth.

Support during the childcare process will also be expanded. For all employees who cannot use the on-site daycare center, childcare expenses for children under 73 months of age will be increased by 30% monthly. The flexible working hours system has been improved to allow employees to adjust their commuting time within 1 hour and 30 minutes before or after business hours.

Additionally, one paid birthday leave day per child will be granted in the month of the birthday for children aged 12 or younger, allowing employees to celebrate their children’s birthdays together.

Furthermore, to strengthen childcare support after childbirth, a ‘Childbirth Leave 1+1 System’ has been established. When extending leave by using annual leave in addition to the statutory childbirth leave, the company will provide additional paid leave equal to the number of annual leave days used (up to 20 days for female employees giving birth and up to 5 days for spouses).

For example, if an employee who gave birth uses the statutory 90 days of childbirth leave and then connects 21 days of personal annual leave, the company will additionally support 20 days of paid leave for the extended period.

A Daewoo E&C official stated, “Daewoo E&C has been sincerely supporting employees’ childbirth and childcare to the extent of receiving family-friendly company certification every year,” and added, “We will expand practical support more broadly and meticulously so that as many employees as possible can benefit.”
