Hong Jun-pyo: "Shipwrecked Rats Escape Alone to Survive... Will Be the First to Drown"

"Even if Surviving, Will Become Saengbul Yeosa"

Hong Jun-pyo, the mayor of Daegu, criticized the voices within the People Power Party calling for support of the impeachment motion related to the emergency martial law situation.

On the 10th, Mayor Hong wrote on his Facebook, "The rats on a sinking ship are always the first to escape. It was the same during Park Geun-hye's impeachment." He pointed out, "There will be almost no surviving rats among those rats," adding, "Even if they survive, it will be 生不如死 (saengbulyeosa), meaning being alive is worse than being dead due to being in a very difficult situation."

Mayor Hong continued, "They try to escape alone to survive, but most drown first. It will be the same this time," and said, "At least the Samsunghano (三姓?家奴) without comradeship should leave quickly." He also concluded his post by saying, "The reeds will go, and the strong should unite," and "A long winter will come to us, but spring will surely come again."

Earlier that morning, Mayor Hong criticized President Yoon, saying, "The biggest cause of failure is the art of tolerance." He wrote, "It is a mistake to have people like Han Dong-hoon and Kim Yong-hyun by your side," and added, "Just as President Park Chung-hee was assassinated because of having Cha Ji-chul by his side, great power is like a sandcastle that collapses in an instant." Mayor Hong emphasized, "Behave with dignity until the end," calling it "a final request as a bromance."

Meanwhile, the People Power Party set an official party stance opposing the impeachment vote on President Yoon on the 7th, and except for Ahn Cheol-soo, Kim Ye-ji, and Kim Sang-wook, all members abstained from voting. At that time, Kim Sang-wook voted against the motion, and the impeachment motion was discarded due to insufficient quorum for the vote.

However, Kim has since changed his position to support the impeachment of President Yoon. At a press conference that day, he stated, "This emergency martial law is an absolutely unacceptable mistake that directly contradicts conservative values as a standard of judgment," adding, "There can be no other excuse. It is a national crime that must be severely punished to prevent recurrence." He continued, "With a deeply apologetic heart, I support the next impeachment vote against the president who planned the unconstitutional and anti-democratic emergency martial law."

Kim also claimed that a considerable number of ruling party lawmakers share his intention to support President Yoon's impeachment. He said, "There are lawmakers with whom I am discussing (support for impeachment). When the time comes, we will share the same will," and regarding the number, he added, "I cannot say definitively, but I believe it is enough to pass the impeachment."
