Choi Hojung, Chairperson of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, conducted a joint nighttime patrol for crime prevention on the evening of the 6th with the Autonomous Police Committee, Seodaemun Police Station, and Seodaemun Autonomous Crime Prevention Union around the Sinchon Myeongmul Street area (Changcheon-dong, Seodaemun-gu).

Attending the joint patrol were Jang Taeyong, Chairperson of the Administrative Autonomy Committee of the Seoul Metropolitan Council; Jeong Jiwoong, the local city council member; Lee Yongpyo, Chairperson of the Autonomous Police Committee; Kim Wonhwan, Secretary General of the Autonomous Police Committee; Jo Jaegwang, Chief of Seodaemun Police Station; Shin Yoonjae, President of the Seoul Autonomous Crime Prevention Union; and Hong Seongman, Captain of the Seodaemun Autonomous Crime Prevention Union.

Chairperson Choi first awarded commendations to exemplary autonomous crime prevention members and then divided into two groups to begin the joint patrol.

Chairperson Choi patrolled for about an hour starting from Changcheon Cultural Park, covering Myeongmul-gil, Yonsei-ro 13-gil, and the Sinchon Food Alley area.

In particular, Chairperson Choi inspected the site of the assault incident on a female university student that occurred last November and announced plans to improve the environment by making the currently dark alleys brighter and safer.

Earlier in November, a female university student walking through the alleys in this area was indiscriminately assaulted by a stranger whose face she did not know.

Chairperson Choi said, “After patrolling together today, I am deeply grateful that the autonomous crime prevention members are steadfastly protecting the dark and unsettling places for citizens. The council will continue to monitor the sites and do its best to create a safe environment.”
