Ruling Party to Form TF for National Stability... Practical Role in Discussing Yoon's Resignation

TF Discusses Political Stabilization, Government Support, and Legal Assistance
Yoon's Remarks on Resignation Timing and Impeachment Vote Participation Kept Confidential

On the 9th, the People Power Party decided to form a task force (TF) team to discuss national stability and an orderly resignation plan for President Yoon Seok-yeol. However, the specific timing of President Yoon's resignation was not decided immediately, and opinions will be gathered through meetings such as the senior members' meeting and an emergency party members' general assembly.

Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, presided over the first closed-door Supreme Council meeting after the dismissal of the impeachment motion against President Yoon at 9 a.m. at the National Assembly, where they agreed to launch a TF to discuss political stabilization, support for national governance, and legal support.

At the meeting, it is reported that they discussed a concrete roadmap for President Yoon's orderly resignation and measures to respond to public sentiment following the failure of the impeachment vote. Kwak Gyu-taek, chief floor spokesman, explained to reporters after the Supreme Council meeting, "We will form a TF composed of People Power Party lawmakers and operate it actively."

Regarding the "national stability part," Chief Spokesman Kwak responded, "It seems the TF will take on practical roles in areas where the party needs to support the government in running the country." About "legal support and review," he explained, "It will be responsible for rapid legal support concerning emergency martial law situations and current national governance support." He added, "Since it is a very practical and swift organization, the party leader cannot handle everything," and "the composition will be discussed."

The Supreme Council members' remarks on the timing of President Yoon's resignation were not disclosed. Chief Spokesman Kwak avoided answering by saying, "There were various opinions and discussions, but since the Supreme Council members ordered confidentiality on all discussion contents, I will not disclose any statements." When asked by reporters whether immediate resignation or participation in the vote if the impeachment motion is reintroduced on the 14th was discussed, he replied, "There was discussion," but "I will not go into specific details."

Due to the rapid deterioration of public sentiment amid controversies over the unconstitutionality and illegality of the party and prime minister's governance following the absence from the impeachment vote against President Yoon, it appears that even the Supreme Council members' remarks, including the usually public opening statements, were kept confidential. After the meeting, Leader Han also did not explain the meeting contents to reporters and headed to the party leader's office.

Attending the meeting were Kim Sang-hoon, chairman of the Policy Committee, Seo Beom-su, secretary-general, and Supreme Council members. Floor leader Choo Kyung-ho did not attend the meeting after sending a text message to party lawmakers urging, "Please proceed promptly with the election process for the new floor leader." Choo had announced his intention to resign on the 7th, following the failure of the impeachment vote against President Yoon.

Leader Han plans to hold an emergency party members' general assembly at 11 a.m. to share the contents discussed at the Supreme Council meeting. This general assembly was reportedly convened mainly by lawmakers serving as secretaries of standing committees. Additionally, at 2 p.m. on the same day, Leader Han intends to meet with senior lawmakers with three or more terms to gather opinions.
