On the 9th, Ulju-gun, Ulsan City announced that it will increase fines for smoking in non-smoking areas following the partial amendment and enforcement of the "Ulsan City Ulju-gun Ordinance on Creating a Smoke-Free Environment and Preventing Secondhand Smoke Damage" on the 5th.
The fine for smoking in legally designated non-smoking areas is 100,000 KRW, and in non-smoking areas designated by local government ordinances, fines can be imposed within the range of up to 100,000 KRW as determined by each local government.
The main amendments to the ordinance include △increasing the amount of fines for smoking △revising regulations on designated non-smoking areas.
Accordingly, Ulju-gun raised the fine for smoking in non-smoking areas designated by the ordinance from the previous 20,000 KRW to 50,000 KRW.
Additionally, Ulju-gun revised overlapping designated non-smoking areas in accordance with amendments to higher-level laws. Non-smoking areas are classified into legally designated non-smoking areas such as restaurants, government offices, medical institutions, and non-smoking areas designated by local government ordinances.
The non-smoking areas designated by the Ulju-gun ordinance include △Jinha Beach △Deoksin Small Park △Guyeong Park △Bus stops △Absolute school protection zones △KTX Ulsan Station taxi stands.
An official from the Ulju-gun Public Health Center stated, “To reduce confusion caused by the increase in fines, we will actively promote the ordinance amendment using the county office website, electronic display boards, banners, and other means.”
