Cellist Park Yushin Releases Third Full-Length Album 'Gyeoul Nageune'

Cellist Park Yushin has released his third full-length album, "Winterreise," a recording of Schubert's song cycle "Winterreise." The album was released on the 4th under the Warner Music Korea label.

Park Yushin has expanded the cello repertoire by discovering and performing works recorded and played on cello for the first time in Korea in his first official album "Dichterliebe" and his second official album "White Night." Similarly, Park Yushin's agency, Mok Production, stated that this is the first time a "Winterreise" album performed on cello in Korea has been released by a major label.

Park Yushin explained the purpose of the album release, saying, "While it is important for a cellist to perform the existing cello repertoire well, I wanted to undertake a more meaningful 'personal project,' so I performed Schubert's lieder."

This is the second time Park Yushin has performed a masterpiece song cycle on cello and released it as an album, following his first official album "Dichterliebe."

Park Yushin recorded all 24 songs of Schubert's "Winterreise," which sets Wilhelm M?ller’s poems to music. "Winterreise" was composed by Schubert, who died young, one year before his death, expressing reflections on love, loneliness, the meaning of life, and death at the end of life. This work, regarded as a representative masterpiece of Romanticism, delicately portrays the emotional and contemplative changes of the wanderer, leading listeners through the aimless journey of a wanderer abandoned by the world. Park Yushin noted that he focused on the fact that the subtle emotional textures in this work can be realized through the warm and rich tone of the cello.

Florian Ulrich, a professor at the L?beck Academy of Music in Germany and a renowned pianist specializing in Lieder (German art songs), collaborated once again with Park Yushin following his debut album [Dichterliebe] in 2022.

The album was recorded from November 11 to 13 last year at the Tongyeong International Music Hall.

To commemorate the album release, Park Yushin will perform in four cities nationwide. He completed a concert at Tongyeong International Music Hall on the 8th and will perform at Pohang Culture and Arts Center Grand Hall on the 11th, Seoul Arts Center IBK Chamber Hall on the 13th, and Incheon Dong-gu Culture and Sports Center on the 18th.
