Jo Kyung-tae Reverses Stance Against Impeachment... "Will Follow Han Dong-hoon's Intent"

The Special Prosecutor Law on First Lady Kim Geon-hee "High Likelihood of Passage"

On the 7th, Jo Kyung-tae, the longest-serving member of the People Power Party and a leading figure of the pro-Han faction, effectively shifted to opposing the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol, stating, "I will follow Representative Han's will."

Jo made this remark on the same day he met with reporters at the National Assembly after President Yoon's national address, in response to his earlier comment about considering the best measures for an early resignation. This came just one day after he was the first ruling party lawmaker to express support for President Yoon's impeachment.

On the 7th, Rep. Cho Kyung-tae of the People Power Party came out during a closed party meeting held at the National Assembly and answered questions from the press. Rep. Cho was the first ruling party member to publicly express support for the impeachment of President Yoon Seok-yeol but later retracted his stance.

Earlier, Representative Han Dong-hoon reiterated the necessity of President Yoon's early resignation, saying, "I will entrust our party with the stabilization of the political situation, including my own term. Going forward, the party and the government will jointly take responsibility for state affairs." Following this, Representative Han headed to the Prime Minister's official residence in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, to discuss future state administration with Prime Minister Han Duck-soo.

Jo added, "It is important to quickly establish a roadmap for early resignation." Regarding proposals such as forming an emergency national unity cabinet led by a responsible prime minister and a constitutional amendment to shorten the presidential term, he said, "It is appropriate for the representative to be entrusted with all such directions and to take immediate action."

However, concerning the 'Special Investigation Law on First Lady Kim Keon-hee,' which was scheduled for a re-vote at the plenary session of the National Assembly that day, Jo said, "There are internal disagreements within the party, but it will probably pass," and added, "Personally, I believe the likelihood of the special investigation law passing is very high."
