President Yoon Suk-yeol announced a national address at 10 a.m. on the 7th, while Hong Joon-pyo, Mayor of Daegu, expressed a skeptical response, saying, "The president's address shifted the responsibility for damage control to the party, but does the party have the capability to handle it?"
In his national address at 10 a.m. that day, President Yoon stated, "I will entrust our party with the future political stability measures, including issues related to my term." Following this, Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, said immediately after the address, "It is impossible for the president to perform his duties normally, and the president's early resignation is inevitable."
In response, Mayor Hong posted on Facebook right after the president's address, "The root cause was originally an emotional conflict between two mercenaries, but now even the damage control has turned into an emotional fight," adding, "Still, the president should have taken the lead in managing the situation, but it seems he is sinking deeper into the quagmire."
Earlier, Mayor Hong analyzed the situation involving President Yoon, who declared martial law, and Leader Han, who called for the president's suspension, saying, "One mercenary played a dangerous soldier's game, and the other used that as bait to play an impeachment game based on personal feelings." He warned, "Both are plunging the party and the country into chaos and driving the Korean conservative group toward destruction again," and cautioned, "If they do not sober up and respond rationally, another impeachment crisis will come." He further stated, "If another impeachment crisis occurs, the constitutional order will be suspended, the party will be dissolved, and the country will become a Venezuela ruled by left-wing populism," calling it "a regrettable riot by immature people."
He also said, "I warned two months ago that we were heading toward the eve of Park Geun-hye's impeachment, but despite that warning, the party and the country are falling into the abyss again. It is a lamentable matter," and added, "If that is the case, just dissolve the party. With that level of awareness, you are not qualified to run a Korean conservative party."
