Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will further strengthen the community-centered dementia prevention and care system through a consignment agreement with Hallym University Gangnam Sacred Heart Hospital for the operation of the Dementia Safety Center.
This consignment agreement was established as the consignment period of the Dementia Safety Center expired, aiming to enhance the quality of dementia prevention, early detection, counseling, and care services, and to build a dementia-friendly environment through continuous community cooperation.
Hallym University Gangnam Sacred Heart Hospital, which has been solely responsible for managing and operating the Dementia Safety Center for three years from 2021 until the end of November this year, was once again selected as the consignment institution for the Dementia Safety Center through procedures including public recruitment.
Accordingly, the district expects to professionally provide integrated dementia management services centered on the community by utilizing the excellent human and material resources of Hallym University Gangnam Sacred Heart Hospital and establishing a cooperative system with the university.
The 'Dementia Safety Center' located within Yeongdeungpo-gu Green & Care Center conducts comprehensive projects covering dementia prevention to care, including ▲ brain and physical health classes for dementia prevention ▲ early diagnosis of dementia ▲ emotional support and counseling for families caring for dementia patients ▲ provision of care services for dementia patients.
In particular, the district actively carries out various projects for dementia prevention and overcoming dementia throughout the community, such as ‘Gagahoho Memory Friends,’ where healthy and active seniors care for dementia patients at home, cognitive training based on information and communication technology like smartphones or smart mirror devices, and sensory stimulation using instruments such as the ukulele.
In fact, the Dementia Safety Center received the ‘Minister of Health and Welfare Commendation’ in September for its excellent dementia program, demonstrating outstanding dementia prevention projects that serve as a model for other local governments.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, “With this consignment, I hope the Dementia Safety Center will further establish itself as the center of dementia prevention and care within the community,” adding, “We will strive even harder to create a safe community free from dementia through systematic management for early detection and prevention of dementia.”
