A woman in her 30s who wrote insulting malicious comments about an author in a webtoon comment section was sentenced to a fine.

Han Ok-hyung, a judge of the Criminal Division 8 at the Seoul Southern District Court, announced on the 7th that A (34), who was charged with insult, was sentenced to a fine of 500,000 won.

A accessed the Naver Webtoon site and posted a comment in the webtoon comment section serialized by the victim B, saying, "What’s the use of graduating from Seoul National University? You’re a personality wreck and a selfish person," thereby insulting B.

The court stated, "The defendant wrote personal attack comments directed at the victim in the comment section of an internet site that can be viewed by an unspecified number of people, and considering the crime and its content, the nature of the offense is serious. The victim has suffered considerable mental distress, and the defendant consistently makes excuses and does not admit to the crime, indicating a high possibility of reoffending."
