President Yoon Suk-yeol abruptly declared martial law but lifted it after about six hours, amid which Rep. Cheon Ha-ram of the Reform New Party revealed on the 5th that he has been receiving death threats.

Rep. Cheon said on his Facebook that "Some people who misunderstood our position actively supporting the impeachment of Yoon Suk-yeol have sent death threats against me, Rep. Lee Jun-seok, and Rep. Lee Ju-young via text messages and SNS." He emphasized, "Security for me and my family and investigations into the death threats are underway. I hope the misunderstandings will be cleared."

Rep. Cheon stressed, "These death threats, like Yoon Suk-yeol's martial law, represent authoritarianism that does not tolerate differences and pose a serious threat to democracy," adding, "Our Reform New Party's firm stance to actively pursue President Yoon Suk-yeol's impeachment and oppose the impeachment of prosecutors remains unchanged despite any threats."

He also said, "To restore the constitutional order, Yoon Suk-yeol's rebellion and riot must be held accountable through impeachment and charges of rebellion," and "Rep. Lee Ju-young, Rep. Lee Jun-seok, and I all jointly proposed the presidential impeachment motion yesterday."

He continued, "However, we oppose the baseless impeachment of prosecutors and the Board of Audit and Inspection chief led by the Democratic Party," and pointed out, "At a time when momentum should be focused on impeaching Yoon Suk-yeol, the Democratic Party should not stealthily push for the impeachment of prosecutors and the Board of Audit and Inspection chief for the purpose of shielding leader Lee Jae-myung or showing off power."

Rep. Lee Jun-seok of the Reform New Party also said on his Facebook the same day, "Suddenly, text bombs are flying in, but all Reform New Party members have already agreed to the impeachment motion against Yoon Suk-yeol and signed it in the afternoon. It is pathetic to see who incited with false information." He added, "Just because someone says strange things on YouTube does not mean it is the truth," and criticized, "What is sending photos of kitchen knives and abusive language because of falling for such false information?"

Meanwhile, President Yoon declared martial law at 11 p.m. on the 3rd. The National Assembly held a plenary session around 1 a.m. on the 4th and passed a resolution demanding the lifting of martial law, after which President Yoon lifted the martial law. Later, around 12:48 p.m. on the 5th, about 190 opposition lawmakers including those from the Democratic Party reported the impeachment motion against President Yoon to the plenary session, and the vote on the impeachment motion is expected to take place around 7 p.m. on the 7th.
