[Breaking] Lee Jae-myung: "Yoon Seok-yeol Must Be Impeached... Han Dong-hoon, Do Not Become an Accomplice to Rebellion"

Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, emphasized that President Yoon Seok-yeol, who declared martial law, must be impeached. He pressured the ruling party, targeting Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, who has set the party stance against impeachment, saying they must not become accomplices in rebellion.

On the 5th, at an emergency supreme council meeting held at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, Lee said, "The impeachment of President Yoon must be carried out," adding, "Martial law and a personal coup have come back from the grave." He stressed, "They must be sent back to the grave and completely sealed off."

Lee defined the goal of this martial law as the destruction of the constitutional order. He pointed out, "They attempted to monopolize all administrative and judicial powers of the Republic of Korea, including sending soldiers to the neutral institution, the National Election Commission, to seize control," and said, "The essence of this martial law declaration and personal coup incident is that the current president tried to become an absolute monarch by exceeding his presidential authority to seize legislative and judicial powers."

Ahead of the impeachment motion, Lee pressured the ruling party and leader Han. He said, "I called Leader Han and requested a conversation through the party leader’s secretariat, but there was no response," urging, "Boldly fulfill the historical responsibility given to you."

Lee emphasized, "The People Power Party must resist President Yoon’s attempt to become an absolute monarch. They must not become accomplices in the serious crime of rebellion." It appears he is trying to shake the pro-Han Dong-hoon faction to secure at least eight defections from the ruling party needed to pass the impeachment motion.
