The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Fire Safety Headquarters (Chief Go Min-ja) announced on the 3rd that a total of 126 people (including 21 civilians), such as paramedics who saved the precious lives of patients with cardiac arrest, cerebrovascular disease, and severe trauma, were selected as recipients of the 'Heart, Brain, Trauma Saver' awards for the second half of this year and were presented with certification plaques.

The Heart Saver certification is awarded to those who revived cardiac arrest patients using cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or defibrillators; the Brain Saver is given to those who contributed to minimizing aftereffects by promptly and accurately assessing and transporting acute stroke patients; and the Trauma Saver is awarded to those who contributed to sustaining life and reducing disability rates through appropriate treatment and transport of severe trauma patients. These are the three major certification systems.

Among them, on September 28th at a wedding hall parking lot and October 26th at an event in Tapdong Square, six individuals who saved precious lives by providing rapid emergency treatment to cardiac arrest patients were awarded the Heart Saver certification plaques by the Jeju Fire Safety Headquarters chief on the 2nd.

Kim Ji-hee and Yang Ki-hoon, members of the Health, Welfare, and Safety Expert Committee of the Jeju Provincial Council Secretariat, and Hwang Si-wook, a wedding hall staff member, promptly performed CPR on a man in his 20s who collapsed in the wedding hall parking lot. Park Sung-sook, head of administration of the Jeju Fire Station’s Women’s Volunteer Fire Brigade, Go Mi-na, field management team leader, and Kang Won-geun, president of the Samdo 2-dong United Youth Association, administered emergency treatment including the Heimlich maneuver and CPR to a woman in her 60s who suffered airway obstruction at the Tapdong Square event, saving her precious life.

Park Sung-sook of the Jeju Fire Station Women’s Volunteer Fire Brigade said, “I felt great fulfillment seeing the patient recover health and return to daily life,” and added, “As a CPR instructor for the volunteer fire brigade, I will do my best to raise awareness of the importance of CPR through education and protect lives.”

Chief Go Min-ja stated, “CPR is a miracle created not by skill but by courage,” and said, “Thanks to the courage of everyday heroes, precious lives were saved. We will continue to emphasize the importance of CPR performed by first witnesses to create a safer Jeju.”
